Château Lafite-Rothschild

While the first reference to Lafite dates back to 1234, the name truly became associated with the Bordeaux vineyard in the 18th century, thanks to the marital union of two fiefdoms: Lafite and Latour. It was Marquis Nicolas-Alexandre de Ségur, nicknamed the "Prince of Vines" by Louis XV, who launched the estate, making it the official supplier of the "King’s Wine." The 1855 Paris World’s Fair established an official classification of Bordeaux wines, still in effect today, and ranked Château Lafite as the "leader among wines." In a public sale in 1868, Château Lafite became the property of the Rothschild family, who added their name to the estate. The prosperity of the label has endured over time, thanks to the talented generations following Baron James, upholding a tradition of excellence.

Baron Eric de Rothschild, the 5th generation of the Rothschild family, is the heir to this quest for excellence that drives Château Lafite and the DBR (Lafite) Group. Alongside him is Christophe Salin, CEO of Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite). This fruitful collaboration has elevated Lafite-Rothschild wines to the ranks of internationally coveted grand wines. Claude Aguttes Auction House regularly features Château Lafite-Rothschild at prestigious sales, a wine celebrated for its elegance and delicacy, and unanimously revered in the world of oenology and gastronomy.

With just over one hundred hectares of vineyards, Château Lafite Rothschild is now one of the largest estates in the Médoc. The grape composition primarily includes Cabernet Sauvignon, but also features Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. The age of the vines is a tremendous asset for the estate: vines aged 40 to 80 years have benefited from a rich history of expertise and tradition, passed down through generations of the Rothschild family. Younger vines are used for the second wine.
