Ado Chale, born Adolphe Pelsener in 1928, is today one of the most sought-after Belgian artists and designers by collectors and interior architects. Trained as a blacksmith, the artist discovered mineralogy in the 1950s—his wife is a gemologist—and collected various precious and semi-precious stones during travels around the world, including in Arizona, Madagascar, and Pakistan. Exploiting their timeless and precious nature, he incorporates these minerals into his creations, while blending them with various metals and organic materials. He plays with textures, shapes, and motifs they express.

His work constantly echoes the natural world: the sky, the planets, and more. The artist develops unique creations by exploring encountered constraints and proposes furniture and objects with innovative techniques. This is evident in his creations made of semi-precious stones, cast in epoxy resin, as well as in his mosaics inlaid with wood, minerals, or sliced bone, covered in resin to form opulent surfaces.

In our upcoming sale "20th Century Decorative Arts & Design," we will have the pleasure of presenting a rare, large-scale obelisk by Ado Chale...
