On September 20, the Old Masters department will be inaugurating the autumn under artistic auspices. The auction will feature a carefully chosen selection of paintings and drawings dating from the 16th to the 19th centuries.

A rare artist on the market, a Return of the Prodigal Son by 16th-century Flemish artist Lancelot Blondeel, will be offered up for auction. A portrait of a man, set against a green background and reminiscent of the scheme constructed and popularized by Corneille de Lyon, will also be on offer; more recently, the spirit of the Grand Siècle will be present thanks to the portrait of the Comte de Toulouse, whose model, elaborated by Hyacinthe Rigaud, was a veritable craze from the moment of its creation; finally, the 19th century will be presented between evocations of Napoleonic epics, nostalgia for the Ancien Régime and charming portraits of children.

The auction can be viewed by appointment at the Neuilly-sur-Seine office until September 19.
