These pieces, of English craftsmanship, display beneath the pouring spout the combined coat of arms of the Cresswell family, a distinguished English family whose origins appear to trace back to the 12th or 13th century, and likely the Whitfield family, another well-established English lineage since at least the 12th century.
"The silversmith, Pezé Pilleau, was a renowned Huguenot craftsman known for the quality and finesse of his pieces, some of which can be found in major museums like the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. In his book 'London Goldsmith's 1697-1837,' A.G. Grimwade highlights that 'Pilleau's work, although relatively scarce, is characterized by beautiful proportions and meticulous finishing."
