A jewel of our heritage and a unique craft passed down since the 16th century, the art of violin making has endured through the ages with little change. Even today, skilled artisans carry on the techniques of the great masters of the past.
On November 30, during its Instruments & Bows for the Quartet auction, Aguttes will showcase two remarkable instruments, embodying this tradition of excellence upheld by contemporary master luthiers.

Modeled after Domenico Montagnana, “Ex-Stanese” “Ex-Pierre”.
In excellent condition.
751 mm back length.
Accompanied by a certificate from Stephan von Baehr dated 2015.
Born into a family of musicians, Stephan von Baehr discovered his passion for the violin at a young age. He trained at Reinhard Bönsch’s workshop in Markneukirchen, Germany, before refining his craft in Paris with Bernard Sabatier, where he specialized in the restoration and expertise of antique instruments. In 1995, he earned the title of Master Luthier, marking the start of a career filled with prestigious international accolades.
His instruments, cherished by many musicians worldwide—renowned soloists and members of prestigious orchestras—resonate on the most celebrated stages. In 2021, one of his violins, inspired by Stradivarius's “Le Dauphin” from 1714 and crafted for the acclaimed violinist Isabelle Faust, who performed extensively with it, achieved a record price at auction. This milestone highlights the international recognition Stephan von Baehr has garnered and the exceptional quality of his instruments. On November 30, Aguttes has the privilege of presenting an instrument crafted in Paris in 2005 with an impressive provenance. Inspired by a model by Venetian luthier Domenico Montagnana (1686–1750), this exquisite cello is in excellent condition, boasts remarkable sound quality, and comes with a certificate from Stephan von Baehr, attesting to its authenticity and excellence.
This extraordinary instrument has already brought to life some of the most beautiful pieces in the repertoire and graced prestigious stages, having belonged to Nadine Pierre, principal cellist of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, and Livia Stanese, a member of the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris.
