The illustrations by Ferdinandus consist of colour plates on the covers, a colour plate in each volume, and numerous black-and-white vignettes within the text.

A fine copy, well bound by Louis Pouillet.

A work on bourgeois and aristocratic manners by this salon hostess, woman of letters and journalist, born Marie Biard (1840–1897), who took the title of Baroness Double through her marriage, which caused quite a stir at the time.
