Small folio (43 x 27 cm), (12) leaves and 4 leaves, including 2 blank leaves, on laid paper with a watermark (2 sewn quires mounted on tabs). Green half-shagreen Bradel binding with very small modern corners, red cardboard covers with gilt title, binding by Yves Dagonet (some soiling and pinholes, particularly on the first leaf, some soiling on the sides).
A beautiful manuscript, very well written “by Sieur Seguin”, which was undoubtedly intended to serve as a kind of annual financial statement.
The title is framed and calligraphically inscribed with the full coat of arms (featuring cannons) of the Duke of Chartres, Louis-Philippe d’Orléans (1747–1793), known as Philippe Égalité, great-great-grandson of Louis XIII, of the House of Orléans.
Very interesting and informative detailed accounts and inventories, with precise figures and names, presented in tables, with calligraphic headings, all in fine, precise and legible sepia ink.
Concerning his stables and horses in Paris, St Cloud, St Germain, Versailles and “for the Arquebuse”, with pages on various types of supplies including medicines, extraordinary expenses…
