New Hours drawn from Holy Scripture. Written and engraved by Senault.

Paris: Published by the author, and by Claude de Hansy, (c. 1700).

Small 8vo, (1)-260 pp., on laid paper. Contemporary dark brown morocco, ribbed spine with a dotted gold title, gilt edges, wide gold lace border on the covers, 6 (later) coloured silk bookmarks bound with tassels of gold-threaded passementerie (tarnished), orange silk endpapers (some wear to the bookmarks, some minor rubbing, copy possibly rebound). A handwritten sheet bound after the upper endpaper commenting on the work (19th century).

An old engraved bookseller’s label, Théodore de Hansy (Paris), depicting the interior of a bookshop of the period and various symbols (bound at the top).

A superb volume, entirely designed and engraved on copper with a burin by Louis Senault, a master French writer and engraver (1630–c. 1680).

Printed on laid paper and adorned with engravings outside the text.

One of the masterpieces of French engraving from the Grand Siècle.
