The Prize of Beauty, or The Pastoral Crowns, in three acts and a prologue.

Paris: De Lormel, 1760.

Large 8vo, (5) leaves including an engraved title-frontispiece, 63-(2) pp., 4 plates, title-frontispiece, 7-9-9-7-(1)-12 pp. Blue morocco, ribbed spine, title, place and date in gold, double gilt line on the head and foot, gilt edges [Chambolle-Duru].

A beautiful illustrated work from the 18th century.

The illustrations consist of a frontispiece title page, four plates and vignettes engraved in black on copper, attributed to Thérèse Martinet after Gravelot.

Partially engraved work by Pierre-Thomas Gondot, with music.

“The engravings are in fact by Gravelot and not by Martinet” (Cohen).

A very fine copy, beautifully bound by Chambolle-Duru.

Dedicated to “Her Excellency the Princess of Gallicin”, namely Nathalie Petrovna Galitzine, nicknamed the Muscovite Venus at Versailles.

The second and third parts consist entirely of engraved music

The play is followed by a section entirely engraved on copper, featuring the repeated frontispiece title and musical scores for the acts.
