(23)-191-(12) pp. and (31)-264 pp. On laid paper, with wide margins, frontispieces and numerous black copperplate engravings (figures, vignettes and culs-de-lampe), decorated headbands and initials. Slightly later red morocco Bradel binding (late 18th century), smooth spine decorated with gilt panels featuring small ironwork, gilt scrolls, title and volume number in navy morocco, gilt title, triple gilt fillet framing the covers, gilt edges, gilded scrolls on the edges and endpapers, marbled paper endpapers (a few slight discolorations, very slight oxidation, some minor rubbing on the covers and the upper joint at the top of Volume I, 2 minor wormholes on the joint of Volume II).

A copy belonging to the writer and academician Jules Janin (1804–1874), bearing his bookplate in gold on a piece of red leather. 

First edition, second printing, in its original English binding.

Fully engraved volume.

A fine Latin edition of the works of the ancient poet Horace, published by the printer and engraver John Pine (1690–1756) and finely illustrated, featuring both ancient medallions and reproductions of numerous Roman statues.

Bears the CAESAR AUGUSTUS TRIBUN POTEST on page 108 of Volume II, a correction mark of the second printing.
