2 volumes in-8, (4)-II-301 pp., 3 etchings and (4)-332 pp., 1 folio of errata. 19th-century red half-morocco with Jansenist corners, ribbed spine, author, title, volume number and date gilt, gilt head [Lemardeley] (spine slightly faded, slight soiling on the lower cover of vol. 2).

First edition of one of the author’s masterpieces.

Adorned with an etched frontispiece portrait and two etchings by Félix Buhot

Provenance: bookplate engraved by Edouard Schuck (label on the upper inside front cover of volume 1).

The text of L'Ensorcelée is followed by a short story entitled Ricochet de conservation. It was reprinted in 1874 in Les Diaboliques, under the title: Les Dessous de cartes d'une partie de whist.

A fine copy in a morocco binding signed by Léon Lemardeley.
