Handwritten letter ‘Fr. verw. Nietzsche’, Naumburg, 21 June 1869, to Rudolf SCHENKEL; 3 pages, in-8 format, with address; in German.

A long family letter to her brother-in-law [Rudolf Schenkel (1844–1899) had married Ida Oehler, Franziska’s younger sister].

She writes to him on a sheet of paper found among the papers of her Fritz (“in den Papieren meines Fritz”) [her son Friedrich Nietzsche]. She thanks her dear Rudolph for his kindness, mentions a sermon (Predigt) they listened to together, a long walk in Bad Elster, the trip to Plauen, and a performance of Maria Stuard (“how hilarious Maria Stuard is, although I really do find it quite lovely and interesting to have seen the play once, where everything is brought back to mind”); Rudolph, despite his busy schedule, was pleasant company. She received a letter from her ‘Lieschen’ (her daughter Elisabeth, Mrs Förster), regarding an appointment with the Grand Duchess (‘die Grossfürstin’), who is very busy, and whom she will try to see after Grand Duke Constantine’s departure. Lieschen had been invited to dinner at the Brockhaus’s, which was postponed…
