Folio, loose-leaf: (2) leaves, 46 plates and 3 fold-out plates. Publisher’s cardboard slipcase with flaps, made of marbled paper (some staining on the sides of the leaves, a tear along the edge of 5 of the plates without damage to the image, one fold-out plate with a partial tear at the fold, the publisher’s dust jacket is worn; the title label appears to be missing from the front cover, and there are remnants of canvas ties).

Costumes and sets by Alfred Roller, Austrian artist and set designer, for *Der Rosenkavalier*, a musical by Hofmannsthal with music by Richard Strauss. The work premiered on 26 January 1911 at the Royal Opera House in Dresden.

Beautiful, large lithographic illustrations in black and colour depicting all the characters in their costumes, and three oblong colour lithographs depicting the sets. A lithograph of the stage plan.

Copy numbered 44 (stamped on the reverse of each sheet and plate) bearing old pencil annotations at the bottom of the plates, in German, clearly relating to the performance (names, sung parts, etc.).
