In-16, 151 pp. Modern blue morocco leather, raised ribbed spine, author’s name and title in gold lettering, date stamped at the bottom, double framing of multiple blind-stamped lines on the panels and covers, endpapers lined with grey morocco leather framed by a gold line and multiple blind-stamped lines, azure moiré satin endpapers, edges gilt on strips, blue covers and spine preserved [Semet and Plumelle] (spine slightly faded, very slight rubbing to one corner, slight foxing on the title page).

Raymond Merckling, who was Louis Jou’s friend and first patron (bookplate engraved by Louis Jou).

First edition in an elegant morocco binding by Semet and Plumelle.

A fine copy of the second printing, completed on 15 December 1919; the title page and the spine of the cover bear the date 1920.

One of 143 numbered copies in in-8° tellière format, on Arches laid paper; this is one of the 18 non-commercial copies numbered ‘F’.

A short novel inspired by Rousseau, which achieved fame particularly in the 1946 film adaptation starring Michèle Morgan, which won the Palme d’Or at Cannes.
