One of the 50 numbered copies on Holland paper, this one being no. 35 in a fine contemporary half-maroquin binding by Carayon.

A major collection of short stories regarded as the manifesto of Naturalism.

Contains six short stories centred on the 1870 War, published under the name of Zola’s house, which he bought in 1878 and where he hosted close literary friends, who became known as the ‘Medan Group’.
