Since the 308 GTB, Ferrari has always produced a model with a rear-mid-mounted V8 engine.
from the 360 onwards, the range is enriched at the end of the cycle by a special version, somewhere between track and road: Challenge Stradale, Scuderia, Speciale, and Pista, the latest addition. These models are true rarities on the market, and are the collectors of tomorrow... The 458 Italia is presented at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show and takes the Prancing Horse firm into a new dimension, thanks first and foremost to the breathtaking lines designed by Pininfarina, but also and above all to the performance delivered by the 570 hp naturally-aspirated V8, propelling the beast to 325 km/h with a 0 to 100 sprint in 3.4 seconds... Quickly acknowledged by Ferrari as the last Berlinetta with a naturally-aspirated engine, the 458 immediately became a prized collector's item, propelling it into the ranks of automotive myths.
In 2013, Ferrari announced the end of production by presenting the 458 Speciale: the car's entire architecture was reworked, and the result was incredible, with a loss of 90 kg on the scales, and a gain of 35 bhp, bringing the total to 605 bhp for 1,290 kg... The gearbox was also redesigned, and pushed efficiency to the limit by making gear downs faster by 44%, and upshifts by 20%! Added to all this is an extremely important new feature that will soon equip the entire Ferrari range, the SSC (Slide Slip Control) system, enabling much higher speeds to be reached in corners, and much easier control during slippery cessions... The result is exceptional, and the press immediately elevates the Speciale to iconic status: Sport Auto headlines "La Gifle!", Top Gear "Future classic, without doubt" before electing it "Supercar of the Year 2013". Our example was delivered new in France on July 18, 2014 to its first owner by Modena Sport. Packed with options, chassis 204637 has been tastefully configured with no cost limits! Where its Rosso Corsa color is a prancing horse timeless, the absence of the Nart stripe (original with the Speciale) is very rare... The centerpiece remains the upholstery, now particularly sought-after since most of it is covered in leather, rather than the quasi-traditional alcantara and its conservation problems.
Today, the car is in perfect working order, with just over 12,800 km on the clock. Its current owner, a fine French collector, has given his Speciale the care it deserves: in fact, it has just left Pozzi's for a check-up after its annual service (carbon-ceramic brake wear of 11% at the front and 16% at the rear). Once behind the wheel, the sensations are there for all to see: the gearbox is a delight of efficiency, and the engine accompanies us up to 9,000 rpm with ease, all with a soundtrack that only a naturally-aspirated engine can offer. The manetino is a call to crime, prompting the driver (who feels like a pilot from the moment he enters the cockpit...) to try the Race mode, which changes the philosophy of the car... 30% throttle, paddles in hand, the sensations are there: move on to the next generations and you'll never find that little thing that makes a car in this category so enjoyable! When driven smoothly, the car becomes comfortable and easy to drive over long distances. To all collectors who haven't yet had the chance to get behind the wheel of a Speciale: make no mistake, this version is a future collector's item that will occupy the most important places in Modern Classics collections from tomorrow onwards. Prices are skyrocketing in the United States, peaking at over $700,000, with Europe soon to follow!
In addition to the hammer price, the winning bidder must pay the following buyer's fees per lot:
- For sales in the Classic Automobiles department (sliding scale fees) :
