Musical Instruments & Bows
Born into a family of violin makers from Mirecourt, Victor Fétique (1872 - 1933) is considered one of the great French masters of bow making. The son of violin maker Charles Claude Fétique, he first trained under Charles Claude Husson, then Sigisbert Maline, Émile Miquel, and Nicolas Bazin. In 1901, he moved to Paris, where he worked for more than a decade at the Caressa & Français workshop, and his work there was influenced by his colleague Claude Thomassin.
In 1913, Victor Fétique set up his own workshop in the 18th arrondissement of Paris, producing many bows between 1915 and 1933. His production can be divided into two periods: bows made by himself, his brother Jules, his son Marcel, or his nephew André Richaume, which are considered some of the finest works of the early 20th century, and bows made under his supervision or in collaboration, completed in his workshop. His most common brand stamp is "Victor Fétique à Paris."
