Tom Dixon, born on May 21, 1959, in Sfax, Tunisia, is a self-taught British designer, renowned for his innovative creations in furniture, lighting, and home accessories. As the founder and creative director of the eponymous brand "Tom Dixon", he has made a significant mark on the international design scene thanks to his unique and experimental approach.
After moving to England in 1963, Dixon briefly attended the Chelsea College of Art and Design before pursuing a music career as the bassist for the band Funkapolitan. Following a motorcycle accident, he discovered welding, a skill that led him to create furniture from salvaged materials, marking the beginning of his journey into design.
In the 1980s, Dixon gained recognition with iconic pieces such as the "S-Chair", produced by Cappellini, which is now displayed in prestigious museums like the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
In 1998, he became Design Director at Habitat, where he played a key role in revitalizing the brand by introducing contemporary and accessible designs. In 2002, he founded his own London-based brand, "Tom Dixon", specializing in furniture, lighting, and accessories. His collections are regularly showcased at major events such as the Milan Furniture Fair and the London Design Festival.
Among his notable creations are the "Melt" lamp and the "Pylon" chair, both of which highlight his passion for sculptural forms and innovative materials. His work is widely recognized for its ability to merge functionality with aesthetics, constantly pushing the boundaries of traditional design.
