La maison Puiforcat
Specialties
Silverware & Tableware
In 1820, Felix Armand Puiforcat and Joseph Baptiste Fuchs opened a cutlery shop on Rue Chapon in Paris. From the very beginning, the workshops were located in Pantin, where the craftsmanship has been passed down from generation to generation. In 1902, Felix Armand Puiforcat’s son-in-law, Louis Victor Tabouret-Puiforcat, took over the business and expanded into silversmithing. He focused on creating important pieces from the 17th and 18th centuries, with a very classic style. Today, some of his creations can be found in the Louvre Museum in Paris.
In 1920, Jean Puiforcat, an important figure in the family, succeeded Louis Victor. He revolutionized the company’s creations by introducing pieces with a strong Art Deco influence. The lines became more streamlined and architectural, bringing a wave of modernity to the brand. The success was immediate, and the brand's reputation grew significantly.
In 1993, the luxury house Hermès, which also specializes in tableware, acquired Puiforcat. Hermès' vision was to reissue older designs while creating new, timeless pieces. The company began working with modern materials such as wood and steel. Often collaborating with renowned designers, the brand has repositioned itself elegantly while staying true to the house’s traditions.
