Born in Bohemia, he settled in Paris in 1875 and began working in the 1880s from his workshop in the Faubourg Saint-Antoine. Featured at the 1900 Universal Exhibition, his talent was recognized and celebrated with a gold medal. His production, inspired by Art Nouveau, was characterized by furniture reinterpreting the taste of the Régence or Rococo styles. He worked for an international clientele and collaborated with artist Léon Messagé. His workshop on Place Vendôme enjoyed success until World War II.
