Annibale Fagnola (1866 - 1939) is considered one of the most important luthiers of the 20th century, his instruments sought after by musicians and collectors alike for their beautiful craftsmanship and tonal qualities. After working as a baker, Fagnola moved to Turin in 1894, where he probably trained with the Marengo-Rinaldi workshop, before setting up his own business in 1899. Although the Piedmontese influences of Rocca, Oddone and Guerra can be seen in his early work at the beginning of the 20th century, Fagnola ultimately favored a Pressenda model. He is best known as an excellent and prolific copyist of this famous author, as well as of Rocca and Guadagnini. Winner of several awards that ensured him international recognition, the 1920s were among his finest years.
