The Michel Siméon Collection was celebrated in a "white glove" auction, paying tribute to Michel Siméon (1926-2020), an avid collector highly regarded in collector circles. Over the course of his life, Siméon amassed more than 3,000 scientific and diverse objects, many of which he restored to working condition.
Nearly all of these objects are functional today, and thanks to a meticulously detailed inventory, the purpose of each item remains known. This rare collection stands as a testament to his passion, expertise, and the early development of electricity and telecommunications, offering a glimpse into the life of a dedicated collector. Accumulated over 55 years, the collection rivals those of some museums!
The objects date from the 19th and 20th centuries, highlighting human ingenuity and societal evolution, while also showcasing their modernity, the creativity behind their invention, and their aesthetic qualities. The auction captivated collectors, decorators, and the general public alike, who could acquire items such as wire coils, Geissler tubes (precursors to neon lights), and gramophones to personalize their interiors. Radios, telegraphs, medical and physical instruments, as well as electrostatic and unusual machines, were also featured.
