A result of €1.9 million for a unique collection. This incredible residence, located in the heart of Paris, just steps from the Bastille, served as the setting for over a thousand objects forming the collections of Kenzo Takada, a fashion designer and also a great art collector. This man's worldview, completely open to the world, represented the cultures of the five continents through sacred Asian art, Chinese archaeology, Japanese art, and objects from America, Africa, and Oceania... Approximately 1,100 lots were offered in a catalog that reflected this universe: Japanese lacquerware, Native American dolls, Chinese figurines, furniture, tableware, photographs, contemporary paintings, and primitive art.
The highest bid was placed on a pre-Angkorian gold statuette of a female deity of wisdom, dating back to the 7th century, which sold for €108,500 including tax. A Buddha from the ancient kingdom of Pagan reached €64,000 including tax. Chinese funeral figurines attracted impressive bids, with one reaching €69,000 including tax, and a Japanese bust selling for €23,400 including tax. Native American Kachina dolls were acquired for around €10,000 including tax, including one from the former André Breton collection, an Indian war bonnet for €14,000, and a kimono for €19,000 including tax.
