Canabas

He received his master’s certification in 1766. Both a cabinetmaker and a joiner, he was trained by prestigious cabinetmakers such as Jean-François Oeben and Migeon. He was one of the first to work with solid mahogany to create small, lightweight pieces of furniture, marked by great simplicity, designed for personal use, such as for serving meals without servants (coolers, dumb waiters, guéridons), or for interior living (reading stands, music stands, planters). Established on Grande Rue Faubourg-Saint-Denis, he worked in the Transition or Louis XVI style for a clientele of renowned merchants, such as the Presle brothers.
