Collectible Watches
Founded in 1735 by Jehan-Jacques Blancpain in the village of Villeret, Switzerland, Blancpain is the oldest watchmaking brand still in operation today. From the very beginning, the maison distinguished itself through its commitment to innovation and precision while upholding the traditions of haute horlogerie. Unlike many other Swiss brands, Blancpain has remained dedicated exclusively to mechanical watchmaking, refusing to produce quartz watches, even during the quartz crisis of the 1970s. This philosophy has solidified its status as a benchmark for traditional watchmaking and a favorite among discerning collectors.
Blancpain is renowned for its ultra-complex movements and exceptional craftsmanship. The brand has developed some of the most sophisticated mechanisms in watchmaking history, including the Caliber 1735, which incorporates six major complications into a single movement: tourbillon, chronograph, perpetual calendar, minute repeater, and moon phases. Each Blancpain watch is entirely hand-assembled by a single master watchmaker, ensuring the highest level of quality and precision.
One of Blancpain’s most significant contributions to watchmaking is the creation of the Fifty Fathoms in 1953, considered the first true modern dive watch. Designed in collaboration with the French Navy’s combat divers, it set the standard for diving watches with its exceptional water resistance, unidirectional rotating bezel, and optimal legibility underwater. To this day, the Fifty Fathoms remains an iconic model, available in various contemporary versions that combine tradition with cutting-edge technology.
Beyond its achievements in dive watchmaking, Blancpain is also celebrated for its classic and elegant timepieces. The Villeret collection, named after the brand’s birthplace, embodies refinement and sophistication, featuring gold cases, sleek dials, and prestigious complications such as the perpetual calendar, flying tourbillon, and annual calendar GMT. These models pay tribute to traditional watchmaking artistry and timeless design.
