Lacloche

Lacloche

The Lacloche brothers – Jules, Léopold, Fernand, and Jacques – founded their jewelry house in 1892, creating pieces under the brand Lacloche Frères. Their innovative approach and distinctive style quickly earned them a stellar reputation. After modest beginnings on Rue de Châteaudun, Lacloche Frères established itself on the iconic Rue de la Paix in Paris. They expanded further with branches in London, Madrid, and in seaside resorts like Nice, Biarritz, Cannes, Deauville, and San Sebastián. Lacloche experienced rapid success during the Belle Époque, attracting royalty from England, Spain, Greece, and Siam, as well as the aristocracy and Hollywood stars.

At the 1925 International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts in Paris, Lacloche achieved immense success. Their stand displayed bracelets, brooches, clocks, and boxes, all admired for their elegance and delicate craftsmanship. The press praised their jewelry inspired by La Fontaine's Fables: a bracelet portrayed "The Wolf and the Lamb," while a pendant told the story of "The Crow and the Fox," with a sapphire-studded crow perched on an onyx tree, holding a yellow diamond cheese in its beak. This collection earned Lacloche the Grand Prix at the exhibition.

In 2019, a retrospective dedicated to Lacloche was held at the School of Jewelry Arts in Paris. Featuring jewelry, clocks, pocket watches, beauty essentials—their specialty—and archival documents, the retrospective highlighted the naturalism of Art Nouveau, the fascination with Egyptomania and the Far East during the Roaring Twenties, the modernism of Art Deco, and the whimsy of the 1950s. 74 pieces were gathered, with contributions from private collectors based in London, Milan, Geneva, Paris, Los Angeles, and Tokyo.

Renowned for the elegance and refinement of their craftsmanship, Lacloche Frères’ models—later Jacques Lacloche—were crafted by some of the best workshops in Paris, such as Langlois, Péry, Rubel, Strauss Allard et Meyer, and Verger.

Lacloche Frères is particularly known for its Art Deco jewelry, characterized by geometric shapes, clean lines, and the use of high-quality materials, including diamonds, pearls, and colored gemstones such as rubies, sapphires, and emeralds. The brand also produced art objects, precious boxes, pocket watches, and fashion accessories, all crafted with exceptional artisanal quality.
