Chaulet jewels

The house of CHAUMET was founded in 1780 by Marie-Etienne Nitot, a former apprentice in the workshops of jeweler Auber, who was the appointed supplier to Marie-Antoinette. Nitot became the official jeweler to Napoleon Bonaparte and the Empire in 1802. Nitot created various jewelry pieces, including the crown of Empress Joséphine and the hilt of the Emperor's sword. In February 1810, Marie-Louise of Habsburg-Lorraine also wore a Nitot creation at her marriage to the Emperor.

The Belle Époque era was marked by the arrival of Joseph Chaumet, who married Prosper Chaumet’s daughter, Marie, and later became the head of the house. He is considered the "Master of the Belle Époque". This period saw an abundance of creations such as tiaras and aigrettes, often adorned with fine pearls, which were fashionable accessories and symbols of power.

The house of Chaumet was renowned for its fine pearls. In the early 20th century, the jeweler sold an average of five thousand pearl necklaces annually, priced between one thousand and one million francs. In our fine pearl auctions, we offer necklaces accompanied by their original certificates from Chaumet.

The Art Deco style dominated the interwar period with its simple, clean lines, as well as commissions from maharajas, where precious stones were abundantly used to adorn their jewelry.

The post-World War II era allowed women to wear simpler jewelry every day, at any time.

Contemporary collections give a nod to the history of this great jewelry house, known for its connection to the Empire period, using symbols like the bee in many creations, as well as the spider alongside the bee in the "Attrape-moi… si tu m’aimes" collection. The "Joséphine" collection also echoes the style of the Empress’s tiaras. One of Chaumet’s most famous contemporary collections is "Liens", with the first ring launched in 1977, now available in pendants, bands, bracelets, earrings, and necklaces.
